Continuing the theme from last week, today I wanted to highlight another business that although is not strictly standing out from its competition so much as creating a completely new market for itself is Piste of Mind. I doubt that anyone would disagree that the most stressful part of going on holiday is the travelling. For those that bring their own ski/snowboard gear, it can be even worse. Not only do you have to pay extra to the airlines to transport your kit, but you also have to keep within the weight restrictions, which for anyone into off-piste is almost impossible, with all the extra gear that is needed. The limiting weight restrictions also means that many travellers have no other option but to carry their ski/snowboard boots on as hand luggage.
Of course, eventually you get to leave all that heavy kit off at the check-in, board the plane and enjoy some overpriced beer and nuts. But, the stress quickly reconvines on the other side as you pray that your luggage isn’t en-route to Jamaica and assuming it does appear, is in one piece. Once all is in hand, you then have to drag the lot through the crowded terminal and possibly onto buses, trains and taxis before finally reaching your accommodation. Aahh, what a relief. Now 6 days of glorious skiing before facing it all over again.
So far, I’ve painted a rather grim image of the travel experience and although it isn’t always that terrible, I think most of us have simply come to terms with it and accepted that ‘this is just the way it is’. That was until I heard about Andy and the guys at Piste of Mind. What they will do is call to your house before you leave to take all that kit off you, tag it and safely transport it to the resort by road. If you’re able to offload your luggage as well, then that leaves you with only hand luggage to take onto the flight. If you can check-in online and print your boarding pass, you could potentially skip the check-in queue altogether and head straight through security to board the flight stress free. Piste of Mind send all of their customers a text message once their kit arrives so that you can rest in the knowledge that all your gear will be ready and waiting for you when you arrive at your accommodation.
One of Piste of Minds’ happiest customers this season was a family of 5 that used to have to take 2 cars to the airport because they couldn’t get all their baggage in the one car, so twice the fuel and parking costs. Not only did they have to pay for transporting their luggage, but also the extra fees for transporting their skis and pushchairs.
